IMAGINE TASMANIA

A non-profit organisation that encourages individuals, communities and organisations in Tasmania, to focus their capacities and opportunities, to make a difference to the quality of life and the quality of their environment, and to create a vision of a sustainable future, as they understand what is, imagine what can be, and create what will be.

Imagine Tasmania was inspired by Imagine Chicago: www.imaginechicago.org

The core processes of Imagine Tasmania are:

Dialogue – across cultural, racial, economic political and generational boundaries.

Curriculum development – frameworks and organisers to understand and create projects that build communities.

Network formation - to link individuals and organisations committed to developing a positive future for all generations of Tasmanians.

Imagine Tasmania shall pioneer an intergenerational and intercultural process of cultivating hope and civic engagement across all aspects of Tasmanian life. In doing so, Imagine Tasmania shall bring about its objects by:

functioning  primarily as a catalyst and external partner in networks that share resources and lead to social innovation.

encouraging learning by bringing together different discourses, practices and understanding around common ground.

participating in creating an economy in which nothing, and no one, is wasted especially by liberating and connecting the imagination of individuals and institutions in a way that inspires hopeful communities.

identifying change agents in organisations, institutions and communities as well as individuals, which may assist with   development tools and opportunities to make a difference to the quality of Tasmania life.

creating personal development opportunities that inspire, inform and can sustain lasting institutional, community and systemic change.

creating frameworks for learning exchanges that bridge generational, cultural, racial, and political and geographical boundaries.

offering its skills and knowledge for community building and learning to diverse sections of the community and shall make its learning structures available in multiple ways through pilot programs it develops and runs, through on-site consulting to institutions and communities, and through it Leadership Programs.

Encourage a language of hope and possibility.

  1. Work in partnership encouraging people to find ways to connect their particular gift with the community where they live
  2. Build where there is life and energy
  3. Create opportunity for constructive interactions across boundaries
  4. Identify individuals who are committed to being change agents and help them make a difference by connecting them to opportunities and tools
  5. Keep the whole in view
  6. Expect the best and hold people accountable
  7. Start where you would least expect us to start

We will have succeeded in the short term if we have helped one person achieve a dream who otherwise may not have done so.

 To do this we will:

Reach out to established networks to help us find 20 people to work with
Create a pathway these people can follow to build the skills and receive the support they need to make their dream happen
Build a support system open to all community leaders – new and existing
Revisit our goals again at the end of 2004.
